LAPD Contact Info

EMERGENCY

911 is the Emergency Number (but if you read our blog you know that from a cell phone it often goes to the CHP and there is a long wait time – so you should consider these other numbers).

NON-EMERGENCY

Non-Emergency Number for LAPD if police are needed and you are not involved; or if it’s a minor traffic accident or minor crime; loud music/party, etc. CALL 877 ASK-LAPD (877-275-5273)

NOISE in the hood?

Call 213-485-2102 for noise abatement.

Vandalism, Theft & Other

Call the desk 213-473-0476 to make a report for vandalism, theft or other minor crimes.

NOTE: major crimes (robbery, burglary, rape, etc.) CANNOT be reported over the phone. You must report those in person.

Miracle Mile Safety Tips

Miracle Mile Safety Tips When on patrol (preferably three people) and you see a crime happening or someone doing something suspicious, the LAPD recommended that of the three people - one person should say something like "what are you doing there?" (or shine a flashlight on them, blow a whistle etc.); the second person should be calling the LAPD hotline at 213-928-8223 and the third person keeps their eyes out for others - because criminals usually work in teams.

A lot of crime happens after someone has withdrawn money at an ATM.  If you can avoid it, do NOT get money out of an ATM at night.  If you need to - remember the Wilshire Division Police Station has an ATM (on Venice just east of La Brea); also Ralph's or Albertsons usually has an ATM.

Check in with the LAPD each night that you patrol - ahead of time - so they know you're out there.  Often they keep an eye on us and check on us throughout the night.  Tell them you're with the Miracle Mile Safety Patrol - they know us.  Sometimes the officer on duty will give you his private cell phone.  This is not to be used lightly - only use it the night you're patrolling if you need to speak with him.

911 rarely works from a cell phone.  Officer Reed told us that if there are two of you dialing, one could dial 911 and the other should call the LAPD hotline 213-928-8223.  The 911 calls from a cell go to CHP first so it may take a long time to get an actual operator.  The 213-928-8223 number goes directly to the police station and they can connect you to an emergency line.

When on patrol - carry a bottle of water.  Remember to put your whistle on your key chain.  Bring a good flashlight (preferably a Mag light); carry a pen and paper to write down license plates, etc.  Your yellow Miracle Mile Safety Patrol jacket has a lot of pockets inside and out.

Beware of approaching a criminal.  Get a good description.  It's okay to report someone who looks suspicious or a car that seems suspicious.  Again, call that 213-928-8223 tell them "I'm with the Miracle Mile Safety Patrol and I am noticing someone who looks very suspicious" and report any strange activity.

* Delayed Response to Traffic Collision

Traffic Collision Investigators are supervised by Captain Nancy Lauer, Commanding Officer, West Traffic Division.  Captain Lauer can be reached at (213) 473-0222.  Unfortunately, the weekends generally are extremely busy with service calls.  This places many service calls in priority categories, creating response delays.  Hopefully, the City's new fiscal year will bring additional policing resources for deployment.

* Narcotics Problems

It would assist our enforcement efforts if the narcotics problem could be discussed directly with any of the following Wilshire personnel:

- Lieutenant Armando Perez, Officer-in-Charge, Wilshire Station Gang Impact Team and Narcotics Enforcement Detail at (213) 473-0444

- Detective III Charlie Choe, Assistant Officer-in-Charge, Wilshire Station Gang Impact Team and Narcotics Enforcement Detail at (213) 473-0444

- Detective Mel Orozco, Assistant Officer-in-Charge, Wilshire Station Narcotic Enforcement Detail at (213) 473-0250

Establishing a working relationship with Detective Orozco would enhance our efforts to receive timely information and coordinate a timely response.

* Quality of Service

Personally discussed your concerns with the involved officer and supervisor.  Please feel free to continue communications with me via e-mail or telephone at (213) 473-0558.  If not available, ask for the Station Adjutant, Ian Monteilh.

 * Part I Crime Information

 As of Tuesday, August 14th, our community policing efforts have
 resulted in a decrease of 4% in Part I Crime, comparing 2007 to
 2006. This includes decreases of 13% in violent crime and 2% in
 property crime.  Furthermore, this is Wilshire Station's fifth
 consecutive year of crime decreases.  This represents the 14 square
 miles policed by the men and women of the Wilshire Station.

 For specific information to your neighborhood, please subscribe to

 have more neighbors join.  Take care and remain safe.
